Rapid City Day 4 (7/13/2016)

Day four of our mission trip was one of the most difficult yet. Most groups were struggling through the third of four days on their service sites and one of our groups was learning the ropes at two completely new sites. But despite the adversity they faced emotionally, mentally, and physically, we are all in great spirits this morning and ready to take on our final day of service.

Please continue to comment below. Your love and support has helped each of these youth (and chaperones) carry on when they’ve faced difficult moments. Thank you!

  1. Once again, you all amaze me with your spirit and love. Wow, how lucky the world is to have you s a part of it!!

Now a note re: Summer Youth Choir. All treble voices are invited to sing on Sunday, August 6. We will rehearse Wednesday, August 3 at 6:30 pm in the Chancel c
Choir area and again Saturday, August 5 at a time to be determined (NOT crack of dawn!!). I know you don’t have your electronics with you now, so PLEASE read your email from me when you return home. Sorry I don’t know how to Twitter or use Instagram–so you’re stuck with emails and texts from me!!

    SO proud of you!!

  2. Great to see the video..wish I could hear your comments more clearly but I am sure they were very interesting. Today my head was just full of the song…here I am Lord…is it I Lord…I have heard you calling in the night…I will hold your people in the heart! For some reason I felt the urge to really pray that we at home should be asking that He hold you each tenderly today. I hope your last mission work day was really very special. A special shout out to my grand daughter, Catalina…grandma and grandpa love you!

  3. I have really enjoyed your video reports. You are obviously making some great connections with those less fortunate, and these friendships may very well be life changing for some of you.
    I sure hope so.
Enjoy your last day and have a safe trip back to Des Moines.

  4. Thank you for sharing today’s video. Taylor – I hope those weeds you were pulling were not poison ivy. I am pretty sure I saw a smile on your face while pulling those weeds. Now that I know you enjoy pulling weeds, I trust that you will find a way to serve your parents by pulling our own weeds in the flower beds. Nick, brush your teeth tonight. It’s always good to brush your teeth at least once a week…whether they need brushing or not. All joking aside, I am very proud of the service work you have done this past week. I hope you feel the connection to God as you serve others. Stay safe and have fun!

  5. Every day is a good day to spend with God. Your trip, and time away from us, gives us all an opportunity to center ourselves on things that matter to us and to those around us. Just another way that your service trip is touching lives.
    God bless your journey home.

  6. You are looking a little run down, but you keep pushing on. That was one of Trinity and Grace’s lessons this week at another vbs. Endurance. Keep doing what you’re doing! Love you all!

  7. wow just think of the difference you all made in four days time- it’s incredible to think about!!! Now it’s time to take a day to have fun!!! Enjoy tomorrow. You will all continue to be in our prayers:-)

  8. Yesterday I worked on pulling weeds and realized it would have been much better to have a group of St Mark mission trippers helping me. I’m jealous!
I’m sure those you are serving are really feeling the blessings of your service.

So glad to see you got to go to Mt Rushmore. Glad to see Julian found a piano to play and Mariel right there singing with him. Have you noticed Julian can’t pass by a piano without playing it? Love both of your musical gifts.
A special shout out to the seniors: Julian, Zach, Rob and Indigo. I know you’ve been a great example to the others and I know you will not stop serving. Remember the friendships and bonds you have made at St Mark. Stay in touch on breaks. You have a great support network. Lots of love.

  9. Hey, all you hard working people – both students and leaders! We were just talking about how, by the time you hear these comments, you will be done with your last full day of service work out there – good job!!! You will really appreciate a day of fun tomorrow – and it will be well-deserved for all that you have given of yourselves this week.

Zach – your mom will be happy to see that you actually said something on camera! It was brief, but it was quite profound…”we are sorting…things…” (I loved it!)

Ben, were you really trying to pick George Washington’s nose?? You were enjoying it way too much!

It was fun to see you all in front of the Mt. Rushmore monument – great men who knew what it meant to serve others, on the mountain behind your group and all that you represent being there.

Also loved seeing the group circle – how you support and encourage each other – and loved knowing that you, Rebecca, were in there! We love you so much, and hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow!!

P.S. I read Jane’s comment, encouraging people for the Summer Youth Choir – did she not listen to the karaoke?? JUST KIDDING!

  10. Love all the smiling faces, even as you all work so hard. I’m sure God is smiling, too, as he sees you all being such cheerful givers of yourselves…your time and your (considerable!) talents! We’re so proud!

In Psalms today I read, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will support you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22). It made me think of all of you, especially with how tired you must be. I know it’s easy to say when I’m sitting in my nice air-conditioned house and sleeping on my nice soft bed, but finish strong…we know you can do it! 🙂

  11. Love you all and the work your are doing, including growing closer to God and your relationships with each other. God be with you all and have an awesome day at Custer State Park tomorrow!!

  12. Love to see and hear about all of the faith and good being given and received. Prayers for a fun and safe next couple.of days.

  13. Today I’d like to give special thanks for the amazing leaders that I’ve been allowed to serve with here in Rapid City. I have Been inspired by watching them pray for each person on the trip, care for scrapes, cuts and allergic reactions. Through it all they continue to give all the glory to our Father. I’ve been really honored to see them uplift each and every person on the trip. Thank you Leaders for sharing your gifts and your love!
